As an assistant vice chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, John D. Short's portfolio includes University Place Conference Center and Hotel, IU Natatorium, IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium, Indianapolis Tennis Center, IUPUI Bookstores, campus food service, printing and mail services. IUPUI is an over - 29,000-student institution offering over 200 degree programs.

Short joined IUPUI in 1987 as director of University Place Conference Center and added the sport facilities to his responsibilities in 1992.

In 2002 he was named assistant vice chancellor with expanded responsibilities. To the position, Short brings a background in law, education, the corporate world and community service. Before joining University Place, he was director of lease administration for Browning Investments, an Indianapolis-based real estate development company. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis.

He is chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Art Museum of Sport, a member of the Capital Improvement Board of Managers, the boards of the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association, Cathedral High School, Little Sisters of the Poor, and the International Student Leadership Institute (University of Notre Dame) and served on the White River State Park Commission (1988-2000).
